"The Voice's" Shakira.
"The Voice" is poised to say farewell to Shakira and -- maybe -- welcome back to Christina Aguilera.
Though no official statement has yet been made by NBC, both host Carson Daly and Shakira herself seemingly confirmed media reports that Aguilera would be returning to the hit singing competition for its fifth season when speaking to reporters following Tuesday?s elimination show.
?Christina?s coming back,? said Daly, as part of his response to a question about the growing number of children on "The Voice" set.
And asked how she balances motherhood with her coaching duties, Shakira told TODAY.com of her son Milan, ?He deserves a break, and that's why I'm going to take a break for next season.?
?I'm hoping to get back to my motherhood and get back to the recording studio,? she continued, but added, ?You never know what might happen. I might be back at some point.?
The Latin hitmaker took over Aguilera?s coaching chair this season, after Aguilera decided to leave "The Voice" to focus on her most recent album, "Lotus," which was released in November 2012.
Rumors continue to circulate on whether or not Cee Lo Green will also reclaim his position on the show, which was taken by Usher. Green has already made one appearance in season four as a musical guest, and it was announced Tuesday that he will be back again next week, filling in as Team Shakira?s mentor while Joel Madden is tied up with his commitment to "The Voice" Australia.
The return of Aguilera may toughen up a panel that some viewers have said is a little too nice. Daly told TODAY.com that ?I think somebody like Christina Aguilera brings a different style of coaching. And with that comes constructive criticism, and I think I've actually missed a little bit of that. As somebody who spends a lot of time with the artists, young people are like 'Hey, I'm here. I'd like to leave with a little something.? I think Christina was good like that. She gave a lot of constructive criticism.?
For her part, Shakira called her "Voice" experience ?more fun than what I expected. I've learned so much more than what I thought I could learn, even from the people I'm coaching. This has been such an amazing experience."
People really love the show (and) so do I. I hate to watch myself on television, but I watch The Voice because it's so entertaining to see the other coaches and see the amazing talent that there is in this competition.?
Ultimately, with the level of talent amongst its coaches, change is a given for "The Voice."
"This show isn't built on coaches that are TV judges professionally,? Daly explained. "You have four very A-list prominent artists with obligations and we knew that. This was something that we knew going in. And we think it's great actually. I think the audience likes to see a little bit of a mash-up and a little exchange too. And ultimately, once you've had that red chair it's yours for life, so you can come back."
