LOS ANGELES (TheWrap.com) - Steve Kornacki has taken over as the host of MSNBC's weekday morning show "Up," MSNBC said on Tuesday.
Kornacki, previously a co-host of the cable news network's "The Cycle," will replace Chris Hayes, who has hosted the show since 2011.
Hayes, meanwhile, will move into the network's weekday-at-8 p.m. slot, which was formerly held by Ed Schultz, who's being moved to a new program that will air weekend nights. Hayes will take over the weeknights primetime slot on April 1.
MSNBC president Phil Griffin hailed Kornacki's "great political mind" and "ability to connect with viewers" in announcing his transition to "Up."
"I give so much credit to the 'Up' team who created appointment viewing on the weekends for us and some of the smartest conversations on television," Griffin said. "Steve has a great political mind and his ability to connect with viewers made him a natural fit to continue driving that dialogue."
